• Course overview

Eligibility: This course is open to SGC employees only.

This course is designed for Personal Advisers and Social Workers who support young asylum seekers. It follows their journey from departure to arrival in the UK, through the asylum process and beyond, offering practical insights to strengthen professional understanding and support. Participants will explore the challenges young people face on their route to safety and gain a clear overview of key stages in the asylum process — including Home Office interviews, tribunals, Appeal Rights Exhausted (ARE), bail signings, detention, and Human Rights Assessments (HRA). The session also provides space to reflect on how this work impacts professionals and how best to offer meaningful, trauma-informed support. Delivered by: 1625 Independent People – Asylum and Refugee Intensive Support Team. Celebrating 10 years of supporting young asylum seekers and refugees (January 2026).
